The Sugar Land Garden Club presents two annual scholarships to worthy students enrolled in the study of horticulture at Texas accredited institutions. The students are selected by the university faculty to receive these scholarships based on academic performance and leadership roles.

Lauren Deibert

Lauren Deibert has been awarded the Sugar Land Garden Club Scholarship for 2010 at Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a majoring in Horticulture with hopes to continue her education with a Master's Degree. Her goal is to prepare for a career in landscape design.

Lauren grew up in west Houston, in the Spring Branch area. She first became interested in Horticulture when she took several Horticulture classes in high school, and was part of the Spring Branch FFA Floriculture Judging Team. She is a member of the SFA Horticulture Club and was on the judging team that traveled to Orlando, Florida in February 2010 to compete in the Southern Region American Society for Horticultural Science Judging Contest.
 

   

Hayley Hannah

Hayley Hannah, a graduate student at Texas A&M has been awarded the Sugar Land Garden Club Scholarship for 2010. She previously attended Mississippi State University where she graduated with a degree in Horticulture with a concentration in Floriculture and Ornamentals. Her interest in horticulture comes from her mother, who is a florist. She has been around flowers her entire life, and has worked in her mother's florist shop since she was 10 years old.

Hayley is pursuing her Master's Degree at A&M, where she is working on a pecan physiology project linking root growth to above ground phenology, as well as looking at nitrogen uptake in pecans. She will be a teaching assistant in fall 2010 for a plant identification lab. She hopes to attain a PhD, and teach at the collegiate level.
